Frisbie Baking Co. (1871-1958)

Posted by teamdustrial On June - 21 - 2008

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a UFO? It’s a PLANE? no! It’s a funky FRISBEE! A round piece of plastic that filled the skies for years through the fifties and sixties and still floats around today…
…”the Frisbee was inspired by the metal pie tins of the Frisbie Baking Co. that college students tossed for fun”… who started it? Noone really knows…
What we know is that every object has a history, and behind that history an INVENTOR, the person who thought it up first. Sometimes who was first or how the invention was achieved can be a topic for HOT DEBATE as it happens with this case, there are two crusty schools concerning Frisbee’s origins: the Pie-Tin School and the Cookie- Tin School, each camp holding devoutly to its own argument :.

The PIE-TIN School :.
The pie-tin people claim Yale students bought Frisbie’s pies (undoubtedly a treat in themselves) and tossed the prototype all over Eli’s campus. These early throwers would exclaim “Frisbie” to signal the catcher. And well they might, for a tin Frisbee is something else again to catch.

The COOKIE-TIN School :.

Now the cookie tin people agree on these details save one: they insist that the true, original prototype was the cookie-tin lid that held in the goodness of Frisbie’s sugar cookies…

Transparent Toaster

Posted by teamdustrial On June - 20 - 2008

Toasts. We all love them, people in England eat them every morning and they are so easy to prepare. Designers from concept studio Inventables realized that too and developed a slightly different tool for making toasts: first transparent toaster. You can now always check the colour of your toast because of transparent heating glass and avoid these burnt ones. This machine allows to heat only one toast at the time but your friends will be definetily surprised by the look of this. The only shame is this is only a concept, because the glass can’t get hot enough to toast the bread but maybe it will be possible one day…

Rumbling around through some animation blogs i found that Mr. Tadahiro Uesugi illustrations served as inspiration for a really nice 3d commercial. Fantastic use of light and color i must say. Here are some examples:

TOM DIXON & OPORTOSHOW

Posted by teamdustrial On June - 20 - 2008
